At one time, Poland boasted thousands of “klezmorim” among its three-and-a-half million Jews. When this documentary was made in 1994, there was only one. Leopold Kozlowski was one of the few Klezmer musicians who survived the Holocaust and remained in Poland. (Mr. Kozlowski passed away in 2019) This charming and moving film follows Mr. Kozlowski on a pilgrimage to his hometown in present day Ukraine.
Yale Strom, who directed The Last Klezmer and is a Klezmer musician himself, will join MJFF for a live streamed discussion program on Sunday Oct 3 at 7:00 PM.
‘Those who want a documentary that is moving and real will not be disappointed’ Entertainment Weekly.
