The Cakemaker

A forbidden love story takes a wholly unexpected — but richly rewarding — turn. Berlin baker Tomas embarks on a passionate affair with Oren, a businessman visiting from Jerusalem. When Oren dies suddenly in a car crash, Tomas travels to Israel seeking answers. Keeping his secret to himself, he starts working in a café for Anat, his lover’s widow. Juxtapositions of Germany and Israel, gay and straight, child and adult, secular and religious, truth and deception and the gorgeous character of food, are simply and beautifully filmed in this quiet, but powerful story of intimacy, loss and love. Not appropriate for 16 and under due to sexual content.

“…a tender, tactile and just-sweet-enough story of hidden love,” Variety Review
