Searching for Gerda Taro

In 1933, photographer Gerta Pohorylle fled Nazi Germany for Paris, where she fell in love with journalist Endre Friedmann. Three years later, the two young anti-fascists, under noms de guerre Gerda Taro and Robert Capa, made their way to Spain where Gerda captured her iconic, deeply human images of the Spanish Civil War before being killed in battle at the age of twenty-six. While Capa would go on to renown as a war photographer, Gerda would remain relatively unknown—her trailblazing work credited for decades to her surviving lover. With this film, Gerda Taro’s life and legacy are finally brought to light.
