Holocaust Film Series
Maine Jewish Film Festival and the Portland Public Library have partnered together to present the Holocaust Film Series during April, Holocaust Remembrance Month. Two films will be screened at the Rines Auditorium at the Portland Library on Monument Square in Portland. Screenings are free and all are welcome
Thursday, April 19 6:30 PM – #uploading holocaust – Every year, thousands of Israeli high school students make the “journey to Poland” to learn about the Holocaust and record their entire experience. Brilliant editing in this documentary shows the teens moving from facts, to reflection, to deep emotion at sites where friends’ ancestors, or their own, were murdered. A provocative and moving look at the way collective memory is formed in the internet age. Historian and poet Anna Wrobel leads a discussion following the film.
Thursday, April 26 26 6:30 PM Shorts Program An MJFF curated program made up of seven short films that are provocative and powerful distillations of the human experience. From creative animation to slice of life realism, these films are both entertaining and thought-provoking.

The Cabinet Decision – The metaphor of conjoined twins illustrates the Middle East conflict through stunning animation.
A Night at the Garden – An unedited 1930’s newsreel is a chilling echo of current politics.
Across the Line – As Shabbat approaches, a Jewish settler picks up a Palestinian hitchhiker and they are both transformed.
