Hankus Netsky founder of the Klezmer Conservatory Band and Eden MacAdam, member of the Klezmer Conservatory Band are joined by three musicians for an exhilarating concert in an intimate setting. Maine’s own Casco Bay Tummlers will open the show.
Hankus Netsky, a multi-instrumentalist has composed extensively for film, theater, and television, collaborated closely with such artists as Itzhak Perlman, Robin Williams, Joel Grey, Theodore Bikel, Robert Brustein and Robert Pinsky and produced numerous recordings, including 10 by the Klezmer Conservatory Band.
Eden MacAdam-Somer, a vocalist and violinist, is an educator and composer/improviser. She maintains an active, eclectic international performance and recording career as a soloist and with such bands as Notorious Folk and the Klezmer Conservatory Band.
A graduate of New England Conservatory, Zoe Christiansen is a remarkable accordion, keyboard and clarinet player with particular expertise in eastern European and Turkish styles as well as Klezmer music. She is a member of Northern Harmony’s faculty and touring ensemble and has performed with the Klezmer Conservatory Band.
Percussionist Grant Smith is involved in many world music, jazz, classical, and dance projects. He has performed with Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Don Byron, the Klezmer Conservatory Band, the Violent Femmes, Garrison Keillor, and Jane Wang.
Zach Mayer, baritone saxophonist, has performed with John Zorn, Frank London, Michael Alpert, Joey Weisenberg, and Bobby McFerrin and performs internationally with Zion80, a 10-piece Jewish Afrobeat band.
The Casco Bay Tummlers, based in Portland, have been performing klezmer music since 1988. The band’s repertoire is versatile, ranging from original music to traditional dances and songs of the Yiddish theater and Jewish ghetto – all with original arrangements. The Tummlers have toured in Germany, Lithuania and most recently in Slovenia and Italy.
