A musical odyssey uncovers the hidden – and almost erased – story of Iraqi music. Majid Shokor, an Iraqi living in exile in Australia, is determined to find the roots of Iraqi popular music, and goes on a journey of discovery to Israel, Europe and Iraq to meet musicians of all faiths and hear their music and stories. He finds that Jews, Muslims and Christians all created the rich tapestry of Iraqi popular music in the 20th century. Shokor’s efforts culminate in a concert of Iraqi music at the Barbican Center in London in 2012, an event of rediscovery, celebration and reconciliation.
