“I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if it need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.” – Nelson Mandela, 1963
Nelson Mandela and 10 other defendants (many of them Jewish) are on trial for conspiracy to commit sabotage against the repressive South African government. Their lives hang in the balance, dependant on the intelligence and courage of their tenacious lawyer, Bram Fischer. But Bram has a secret of his own to hide and must make choices that will have deep consequences for himself and his family.
