Community Observance – All Are Welcome

There will be a special Community gathering to honor and show support for victims of the Chabad of Poway shooting at 5:30 immediately before the Yom Hashoah Observance

Wednesday May 1,  6:00 PM

Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine, 1342 Congress Street, Portland

Presented by the Maine Jewish Film Festival, Oratorio Chorale, and the JCA

This free event is open to all and will open with a brief memorial ceremony which will include lighting of Yahrzeit memorial candles and recitation of the Kaddish prayer.

This will be followed by a musical performance by Oratorio Chorale and a  screening of the film They Played for their Lives, a moving documentary about survivors. Through intimate interviews and live performances, the film artfully portrays how music saved the lives and fostered the spiritual strength of young musicians in the ghettos and concentration camps.

A discussion led by Emily Isaacson – Artistic Director of Oratorio Chorale, Rabbi Carolyn Braun, and Holocaust educator and historian Anna Wrobel concludes the evening.

Made possible with the generous support of: Drs. Verne and Tracey Weisberg and the Sam L. Cohen Foundation, as part of the What Binds Us Together Series
