In this selection of shorts focused on women, we see both the inner and outer worlds that women deal with on a daily basis. From a Hasidic girls camp to the Tel Aviv bus station, from an army barrack to the death metal stage, three generations of Jewish women talk to themselves, each other, and to us, the audience. This is the first year that MJFF has created a shorts program about women and we hope that it becomes a tradition. This program will be preceded by a reception in the downstairs Olin lobby. Films include:
Shabbos Kallah — A friend can’t keep her mouth shut during this social gathering and complications ensue.
Next Stop — A woman who is the voice behind the recorded bus stop announcements briefly gets her chance at local stardom.
Out of Reach — Hagar works at a photo store where she converts old video tapes to new digital files. A lonely, quiet young woman, she finds herself fascinated by watching the videotapes people have forgotten to pick up.
Death Metal Grandma — A 96-year-old poet, songwriter and Holocaust survivor starts singing death metal late in life.
Summer — A coming of age story set in a Hasidic girls sleep-away camp.
The Love Letter — A rookie commander in the Israeli army finds an unexpected love letter.
Vivid Ruthie — 18-year-old Ruthie is an old soul temporarily taking care of her grandmother, who is young at heart.
